Kinu Green Park Cosmos Festival (final weekend)
1.2 million cosmos of four kinds in a riverside park field.
Four kinds, about 1.2 million flowers: Kinu Green Park's Cosmos Festival reaches its 37th year. It takes place in the Hoshakuji area on the left bank of the Kinu River, about 30 minutes by car from Kaminokawa IC on the Kita-Kanto Expressway, or about 10 minutes from JR Hoshakuji Station.
The park is built around the theme of "meeting the water," with three areas along the river: Hoshakuji, Shirasawa and the Upstream Square. Hoshakuji is the side with the water athletics course, boats and tennis courts, and the flower field is here too. There is also a dog run and bicycle rental, so the riverside can fill out the visit after the flowers.
The festival runs Oct 3–25. Bloom depends on the weather, and events are canceled in rain. The Shirasawa area in Utsunomiya is where poppies bloom in May and June.
