Pampas Grass Maze at Mt. Fuji Children's Kingdom

Climb Fuji's lower slopes on Route 469, then walk into grass taller than you.

The shortest way through is about 120 meters; take every wrong turn and it's about 250. The maze at Mt. Fuji Children's Kingdom follows the natural rise and fall of the ground, and the path runs buried in grass around 2 meters tall. It sits in the Town Area of the 94.5-hectare prefectural park, opened in 1999, whose highest point, Observation Hill, is 940 meters up.

From Susono IC, take Prefectural Road 24 up to Suyama, then Route 469 past the Fuji Safari Park entrance; the park is about 5 km on. From Shin-Fuji IC, follow Road 72 and the Shin-Tomei frontage road to Road 24. Three lots hold about 1,600 cars, free.

In October the park opens 9:00 to 16:00, the maze until 15 minutes before closing. Admission is ¥830 for adults; the maze is free but may close in rain. Fuji City says Mt. Fuji here stands right in front of you, unlike the view from town.
