Komatsu Cosmos Garden Festival (Sagamihara)
A farm-field flower garden in Shiroyama where you can pick cosmos and take them home in the car.
This is a flower field meant for picking. In the Komatsu area of Midori-ku, Sagamihara, about 500,000 cosmos grow on roughly 7,000 m² of unused farmland, and the 27th festival centers on picking them. Cosmos and zinnia picking costs ¥600 including tax, and staff can arrange akebi-fruit picking on request.
The garden is near the Komatsu traffic light in Kawashiri and has parking. It is open until November 3, 10:00–15:00, with free entry. A stand sells local vegetables and flour from homegrown wheat, and a stone mill once used by local farmers is demonstrated. Dates and hours may change with weather and bloom.
The prefecture lists the Komatsu cosmos among Shiroyama's sights, alongside the katakuri lily field and Lake Shiroyama. Also in Shiroyama is Tsukui-ko Shiroyama Prefectural Park: Route 413 crosses the top of Shiroyama Dam to the Hana-no-Sonochi parking entrance, and mid-lake stands the vermilion Mitsui Bridge, 212 m long, completed in 1964.
